BE
CONTENT WITH WHAT YOU HAVE
“If we have food and clothes, let us be satisfied.”
1 Timothy 6:8
When I was a child my parents read to us from
Little Visits With God by Allan Jahsmann &
Martin Simon for our evening devotions. I always
enjoyed these short stories and Bible truths and
thought I’d share one with you this Thanksgiving
season.
A
rich man put a notice in the newspaper. It said: “I
will give a house to the first person who is
satisfied with what he has.”
Many people came and asked for the house. When the
man asked them why they wanted it, they told him
that the house they had was too small, or that it
wasn’t their own, or that it wasn’t paid for. They
all wanted something better than they had.
“You’re not satisfied with what you have,” the man
told these people. So he gave the house to a poor
widow with five children who was working hard and
didn’t come and ask for the house.
Are most people satisfied? No, they aren’t. When
they have a car, they soon want a better one. When
they have a job, they wish they didn’t have to
work. When they don’t have something to do, they
wish they could work. When they’re on a trip they
want to be at home. When they’re at home, they want
to go somewhere. It’s this way for both adults and
children.
It
isn’t always wrong to want things. Jesus even told
us to ask Him for much more than we do. But God
does not want us to be unhappy if we cannot have
everything we want. As long as we have enough to
eat and enough to wear and a place to be at home in,
we ought to be satisfied. If God gives us more, we
can be thankful.
In
this season of Thanksgiving let us rejoice in the
gifts God has given us and in all things Pray,
Praise, and Give Thanks!
“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in
all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in
Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten
Wow can
you believe that it is already November? Last month
the preschool and pre-kindergarten talked about
checking our fire detectors at home, and what to do
if our clothes would catch on fire. We had picture
day, and found out if children in Iceland like to
play games, and what their homes look like. We made
cookies, play dough, and decorated pumpkins. This
month we are going to be talking about the first
Thanksgiving, turkeys and practicing for our
Christmas program. Our country this month is
Greenland. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Kindergarten & 1st
Grade
This
October has been busy! We have been learning new
letters in kindergarten along with what sounds they
make and what words start with those sounds. In
first grade, we have been learning new words by
sight and by sounding out words. We have even been
reading books on our own.
We have
also begun our science units. First, we learned
about leaves by taking nature walks and looking at
leaves with magnifying glasses. The last few weeks
we have been studying about pumpkins. We learned
how they grow and even dissected them to see what is
inside.
Your
continued prayers are much appreciated.
God’s
Blessings,
Miss

2nd - 4th Grade
As
November begins the first quarter of school ends.
Although it doesn’t seem possible that we are that
far into the school year - report cards and
parent/teacher conferences lurch just around the
corner. What have we accomplished?
We have
learned new skills for reading, comprehension,
fluency and vocabulary.
We have
learned new skills for problem solving, graphing,
adding, subtracting, place value and writing numbers
in standard, expanded and written form.
We have
learned about weather, storms, sound, bats and
spiders.
We have
learned about famous artists, musical note value,
computers and fire safety.
We have
learned about kindness, cooperation, rules,
consequences and loving forgiveness.
Most of
all we learned about God’s love for His people;
Adam, Eve, Cain, Able, Noah, Lot, Isaac, Jacob and
Joseph to name a few. We know that our God is a
faithful God who guards and protects us each day.
We are thankful for all He’s given us and the
blessings we enjoy in Him.
Happy
Thanksgiving! Miss Janna |
5th - 7th Grade
Another month under our belts and still chugging
along. October was a good month. It was nice
to have a long break to relax and rejuvenate for
the coming of the end of the quarter. The 5th &
6th graders dug into learning about plants,
their parts and how they live. The 7th graders
learned about the many kingdoms that organisms,
fall into in Social Studies, the students
researched an explorer, made a power-point with
their information and presented it. With
Language Arts, students learned to take notes
and did that on a specific state. We then
talked about how to organize the paper and
students put their knowledge to use for their
states. In Art, we have done some great
projects. We have done watercolor, pointillism,
checker boards and radial designs. Meg Duin
came and spoke to the children about another
famous artist, who specializes in portraits.
Congrats to Chloe for winning first place in the
6th grade level Spelling Bee. We look forward
to the Bible Bowl in Baxter on Nov. 17th. The
Lord continues to bless our school with great
kids and knowledge to learn. Hope you all have
a blessed Thanksgiving.

FIRE
SAFETY
Fire
fighters came to visit the students at Immanuel School.
They told us about how to stay safe and prevent fires.
We learned that we need to have fire drills at home just
like we do at school. They brought a pumper truck out
with them and everyone took turns spraying the fire
hose.

GRANDPARENT’S DAY WAS FUN AND EXCITING!
It was a
privilege to set aside a special day to honor our
grandparents at school. The students put together a
program with singing, dancing and acting to entertain
our grandparents. We also played Bingo and had
wonderful snacks. It was an enjoyable day and we are
truly thankful for all our grandparents and friends who
joined us.
