LUTHERAN SCHOOLS: SECURING EACH CHILD'S FUTURE
|
|
SECURE IN CHRIST
Security is the theme for National Lutheran Schools
Week which is the first week in March.
Specifically the theme is directed to the security
of children.
As a
child, I was fortunate to grow up in a big loving
family where I always felt safe and secure. I
can remember as a young child feeling the most
secure when dad was around. He was strong,
wise, unshakable, and at that time seemed very tall.
I have 3 brothers and 2 sisters, of which I am the
oldest. I can recall many times at 2 or 3 in
the morning when the thunder would roll and we would
race for my parents room. Seeking the security
we felt only existed next to their bed. It was
as if we felt the storms would wash the entire house
away except for their room.
I'm sure
as parents and grandparents you can relate to a time
where your child raced into the comfort of your
loving arms to feel safe and secure. Even a
small child feels the comfort of their parents when
they bury their heads under their parents chin for
reassurance.
As safe
and secure as I felt as a child with my father, how
much more sage and secure am I with my heavenly
Father? "Whoever trusts in the Lord is kept
safe." (Prov. 29:25)
Even where we lack trust God cares for us. The
disciples where in the middle of a terrible storm,
with Jesus sleeping right there next to them.
But they didn't lay down at his feet. They
shook him awake, "Lord, save us! We're going
to drown!" He replied, :You of little faith, why are
you so afraid?" In his almighty way he secures
this situation and calms the storm. A loving
Father keeping his children safe even when they
don't deserve it. "For in the day of trouble
he will keep me safe in his dwelling..."
(Psalm 27:5)
Children need to feel secure. They need to
know they're loved. They need to know of
Jesus' love.
Lutheran Schools exist for this purpose; to
make known the love of Christ in word and deed to
children and families. To teach children of
the security they have for eternity in the death and
resurrection of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and
only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not
perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
God wanted all people to know this security. And so,
Lutheran Schools make no apology for a
Christ-centered curriculum with the central purpose
of proclaiming the un adulterated Good News, all the
while providing excellent, scripturally accurate
education.
Secure in Christ,
