A GREAT PLACE TO GROW - GROWING IN CHRIST

“Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love”

(Ephesians 4:15-16).

March is the month where Lutheran schools all over the nation celebrate their ministry during National Lutheran Schools Week.   Immanuel Lutheran School is one of nine Lutheran elementary schools in the Minnesota North District, one of fifty-nine in Minnesota, and one of 1,026 in the LCMS.  Together our elementary schools are sharing the Gospel message with over 140,899 students and their families on a daily basis.  This doesn’t include our daycares, preschools or high schools.

What a ministry!  What a mission!

Lutheran schools do not share this mission alone.  Paul’s letters to the Ephesians are about the church and about the fellowship of believers who make up the church.  Ephesians 4 reminds us that God prepares each of us for special works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up until we reach unity in the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God.  There is a story by an anonymous writer that paints a picture of how God calls us to use the unique gifts He has given us so that the full measure of Christ may be accomplished.

THE CARPENTER’S TOOLS

Someone has imagined the Carpenter’s tools holding a conference.  Brother Hammer presided.  Several suggested he leave the meeting because he was too noisy.  Replied the Hammer, “If I have to leave this shop, Brother Screw must go also.  You have to turn him around again and again to get him to accomplish anything.”

Brother Screw then spoke up, “if you wish, I’ll leave.  But Brother Plane must leave too.  All his work is on the surface.  His efforts have no depth.”  To this Brother Plane responded, “Brother Rule will also have to withdraw, for he is always measuring folks as though he were the only one who is right.”

Brother Rule then complained against Brother Sandpaper:  “You ought to leave too because you’re so rough and always rub people the wrong way.”

In the midst of all this discussion, in walked the Carpenter of Nazareth.  He had arrived to start His day’s work.  Putting on His apron, He went to the bench to make a pulpit from which to proclaim the Gospel.  He employed the hammer, screw, plane, rule, sandpaper, and all the other tools.  After the day’s work when the pulpit was finished, Brother Saw arose and remarked:  “Brethren, I observe that all of us are workers together with the Lord.”

As partners in our congregation, community and school, we are about the business of growing, developing and transforming lives in all areas of faith and life.  May God continue to bless our efforts to ensure that our school continues to be a great place to grow.

  Preschool & Pre-Kindergarten

The preschool and pre-k are looking forward to March.  Last month we made predictions to see if March would come in or go out like a lamb or a lion.  We are excited to see what will happen.

We will celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week, sing at the Irish Beef Stew and end our month by going to Turkey.  March is going to be a Great month!!

God’s Blessings to all,

Mrs. Lori & Mrs. Corina

Kindergarten - 3rd Grade

February was a great month.  We spent some time learning about groundhogs and watched Punxsutawney Phil make his prediction.  If he’s any type of a forecaster spring should be here soon.  The new snow is a just a small set back. We celebrated our 100th day of school with counting, measuring, Olympic events, writing 100 words we know and more. We continue to study our presidents, their lives, education and family.  We are digging deep into the parables of Jesus and their meanings for our lives today.  We are also learning about the season of lent and preparing for our Savior’s death and resurrection.

We are thankful for our reading buddies Grandma Vi and Grandma Myra.  We are also thankful for Meg and Tim Duin who taught us about artist Andrew Wyeth and his wonderful painting entitled, “Christina’s World”.

As March approaches the excitement builds.  First we celebrate Dr. Seuss’ Birthday.  Then we move into National Lutheran Schools Week with all it’s fun activities.  And to top it off we have a week with no school for spring break.

Please join us for National Lutheran Schools Week events.  Come for an evening of fun, food and entertainment at the Irish Beef Stew & Silent Auction, Sunday, March 11 from 5:00 - 7:00.

Blessings in Christ, Miss Janna

4th - 6th Grade

Ten month of February was a good one.  Lots of things were accomplished.  In 4th grade, we have had the chance to really dig into subtracting and adding larger numbers.  With reading, the fourth graders have been reading many stories about inventions or things that have helped make our lives a little bit easier.  In 5th grade, the students have been multiplying two and three digit numbers together.  It is amazing how much paper those problems can take up.  In reading, the fifth graders have been reading about mysteries.  They have been learning how clues are given and they must be organized to put the facts in order.  Of course, last but certainly not least the 6th graders have been working with decimals and scientific notation.  In reading, the sixth graders have been reading about civil war and the lives of families that are in the middle of it all.  Along, with our many other subjects the students continue to plug along quite well.

Lutheran Schools Week is coming quickly and we are excited for all the different activities and speakers.  We appreciate the great things that Lutheran schools are doing around the U.S.  It is great to know that many are sharing the saving work of our Lord Jesus.  May God bless you as He continues to bless Lutheran Schools.

Miss Goetze
