Summer is a time
of delight! (At least for those with relaxed schedules and
vacation time.) There is a certain sense of freedom and
new-found energy. (There’s lots of new-found energy in the
classroom these last few days.) I know...grown-ups normally
don’t savor summer with the same enthusiasm and intensity as
their children. And why should you? Children get much more
vacation than you do! Yet you know a little of what
children feel these days. You’ve probably counted down the
days until you get your annual two or three weeks away from
the routine. You know what it’s like on the last day before
vacation...the anticipation, the abandon, the relief of
leaving the workplace.
Regardless of your attitude
toward the impending summer, your children are probably
delighted about the prospects. Be sure to share in their
delight. Embrace their freedom. And bask in their
new-found energy. Enjoy the breathtaking beauty displayed on
a summer day by our awesome God!
God also reminds us to delight
ourselves in the Lord. Take time this summer to bask in the
glory of God’s word. Embrace the freedom you have through
the death and resurrection of Christ. Share your delight in
Christ with your children and others. And He will give you
the desires of your heart. That one day we will feel the
abandon and relief of leaving this workplace to rest in the
everlasting arms of our Savior in heaven. Where we will
enjoy the breathtaking beauty of God’s kingdom. More
glorious than any summer day.
ENJOY YOUR SUMMER!
