The
Cradle in the Shadow of the Cross
“Yea, a sword shall pierce through thine own soul.”
Luke 2:35
These
were strange words for the venerable Simeon to
address to Mary, the young mother who had brought
her infant Son to the temple: "A sword shall
pierce through thine own soul." As Simeon held
the "Salvation of the Lord" to his bosom, he could
see, as it were, the grim arms of a rugged cross
casting its gloomy shadow across the tiny form which
he was holding.
Calvary, the cross, the crucifixion, the mother of
Jesus weeping at His feet - all seem to sweep like a
swiftly moving picture before the dimming eyes of
Simeon. Mary must not yet know, and so he
speaks in shadows: "yes, a sword shall pierce
through thine own soul," Mary. Simeon could
say, as few others in his day couldn't, that he had
seen the Lord's salvation - because he had seen "the
cradle in the shadow of the cross."
The world
during the past weeks has stood at the cradle.
But did it see the cross? The cross, which
stands behind the cradle and casts its shadow on the
blessed manger scene: that gives
the picture meaning. The Christ of Bethlehem
would be of little value if it were not for the
Christ of Golgotha and the Christ of Calvary.
For us the
Lamb of God is
born! The cross, the altar, awaits the
precious sacrifice - the Lamb which was born to bear
the sins of a fallen world. Let us rejoice
that like Simeon of old our eyes have beheld the
Christmas miracle in its true significance - that
Calvary had given meaning to our Christmas.
That is why we sing:
In the
Cross of Christ I glory, Tow'ring o'er the wrecks of
time.
All the
light of sacred story Gathers round its head
sublime.
Bane and
blessing, pain and pleasure, By the Cross are
sanctified;
Peace is
there that knows no measure, Joys that thro' all
time abide.
may it be
given to everyone of us to see the infant Savior in
the shadow of the cross. Amen

Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten
Preschool
and Prekindergarten are working on letters and
numbers this month. We are looking forward to
Dads night at school and making a great craft
project together. Last month we had our
Christmas program, made gifts for our families, and
had a great time in Antarctica playing in the snow.
This month we will be traveling to Tunisia.
God Bless
you in this new year.

Kindergarten & 1st
Grade
Wow!
2007 has flown by in Kindergarten and First grade.
We worked hard on our Christmas musical, learning
songs and practicing our acting skills to share the
message of Jesus with many people. Coming up
in 2008 we will strengthen our math and language
skills and explore more about the world around us.
kindergarten will continue to learn our letter
sounds and higher numbers. First graders are
strengthening their reading skills and will start
spelling words in the new year. God's
blessings!

2nd - 4th Grade
Happy New
Year! With wonder we turn the page of the
calendar to find... January 2008! To think a
whole year has passed. A year is a little
confusing for us at school as we tend to think in
terms of a school year. At any rate our class
looks back with thankfulness for the many blessings
God has bestowed on us this past calendar year and
so far this school year. We also look ahead
with confidence, knowing that our days and years may
change but our God is the same yesterday, today, and
tomorrow. he is always with us and will guide
us into this new year. We will report on our
academic progress in February - but for now we pray
that as you ring in the new year you keep your eyes
focused on the cross of Christmas.

Another year has come and gone and it truly was
a blessed one. So many things to be
thankful for and so many to look forward to in
the coming year. I hope and pray that
everyone had a relaxing and joyous holiday
season. It is time for 2008 to begin and
there is much to do. With the coming year,
the usual things will be upon us quickly:
Valentine's Day, National Lutheran School's
Week, and so much more. Of course it is
also time to get down and back to work. It
is time to hit the books hard again. We
look forward to learning many new things in
January.
God's
Blessing to all of you in 2008
In
Christ,
