A GREAT PLACE TO GROW - GROWING IN CHRIST

LUTHERAN SCHOOLS:  SECURING EACH CHILD'S FUTURE

Walking In The Truth

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are
walking in the truth.”  3 John verse 4

Many of the questions I frequently hear, especially from parents whose children do not attend a Lutheran school, focus on how well Lutheran schools prepare children for reality.  Assuming that scholastically the public and Lutheran schools in your area are relatively close, one still hears parents ask, “What about when my child has to enter the real world?  How will she fit in when public high school is the only option and she comes face-to-face with the fact that not everyone is a nice, loving Christian?  Isn’t a Lutheran school more of a shelter than a helper?”

Parents around the world are concerned about their children’s future.  That’s why we wrestle over the best place for our children to be educated.  In the verse quoted above, the Apostle John was also concerned about the future of his children in the faith.  That’s why he wrote to one of his congregations and said, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”

John knew that what mattered most in life was a relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  Faith in Jesus and His free gift of eternal life was John’s utmost concern for his children.  And you might say that when he heard his old congregation was continuing on that path, following Jesus, well, he was one proud father.

Parents are proud their children grow into adults and continue on the paths they’ve laid down for them.  The most important path is the truth of knowing Jesus as their Savior.

Lutheran schools exist to reinforce that truth in your child’s life.  Learning foundational tools such as math, science, reading, and history are important goals of Lutheran schools, but they don’t head the list.  The number one purpose is teaching Jesus Christ and how He affects all areas of life.  It is only in knowing Him that the knowledge of right and wrong can be taught, the importance of forgiveness modeled, and the love of Jesus Christ shared.  Rather than hinder our children’s future, bedrock beliefs and values such as these enable our children to be the best they can possibly be.

When our children encounter the real world, whatever form it might take, the foundational beliefs learned in Lutheran schools enable children to remain on the right path, walking in the truth of Jesus.

Why not invite another parent to look into your Lutheran school?  Perhaps it’s what their child needs as well.

Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten
Wow can you believe that it is already February? This month the Preschool and Pre-k will be working on more of our letters. For the Preschool, it is an introduction to what the letter looks like and how it sounds. With the Pre-k, we are also learning how to write the letter. The Pre-k is also working on writing our numbers. The Preschool is working on our shapes and colors. This month is a very busy month with Groundhog’s Day, Valentine’s Day and Royal Reader Month. Last month the Preschool and Pre-k had a great time with their Dad’s on Dad’s night at the school. This year our theme was an out of this world theme, with space ship races and great food. We ended the month of January by having Laurie Swanson tell us all about Tunisia. God Bless you today and always.

Kindergarten & 1st Grade
The new year is off to a great start!  First grade started spelling words in January and are working hard.  Every week we have a test and so far all our hard work is paying off!  We continue to practice our reading, growing in confidence every day.  Kindergarten is working hard to learn letters and the sounds they make.  As a group we have also learned about winter by melting snow and then freezing it again to see what would happen (and also explain why there’s ice on the ground when it is snow that falls), used food coloring and water to paint the snow, and wrote about what we wear outside during winter.
In February, we will move from studying the Old Testament to studying about Jesus’ life as we start the season of Lent.  As we prepare to remember the sacrifice God gave for all of us, His one and only Son, we are thankful for this great gift of salvation.

God’s Blessings!

2nd - 4th Grade

February’s here.  The month of groundhogs, Valentine’s Day, Ash Wednesday, and the 100th day of school.  Even with one extra day in the month there’s so much to do and so little time.   Every student in 2nd - 4th grade has improved by leaps and bounds in their reading.  Math is challenging at all levels.  We’ve been adding, subtracting, borrowing, carrying, estimating, graphing, telling time, and counting change.  We are learning about light in science and states, capitals, state birds & flowers in the order they became a state during history.
We learned some square dancing during music and P.E and were privileged to perform them for the residents of May Creek.  We really enjoy going and visiting the people there.  It brightens our day and theirs.
Our favorite groundhog will appear on February 2nd.  Punxsutawney Phil, (the legendary groundhog), has become a favorite in the 2nd—4th grade classroom.  We await his arrival and the excitement of watching him online as he is pulled from his burrow to make a prediction for or against the early arrival of spring.  However, this doesn’t compare to the excitement and anticipation we have as we await the 2nd arrival of Christ.  Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent.  A dark opportunity to ponder how every fault, weakness, and sin nailed Jesus to the cross.  Then He arose from the tomb making all predictions come true - we have been set free of our darkness through His death and resurrection and await for our eternal spring with Him in heaven.

In Christ,
Miss Janna
5th - 7th Grade
Happy Heart Day to all of you.  God has given us so much, but above all He has given us His love, so why shouldn’t we share it on this day and every day?  February brings the lovable day of Valentine’s Day and we shall enjoy a day to celebrate that we love and appreciate one-another.  February also brings more school work.  The 7th graders will be sewing their own flannel pants after visiting the fabric store to fully understand all the work that goes into making clothes.  The 5th & 6th graders have started new reading units with the beginning of the new quarter.  6th grade will be reading all about the theme “Taking a Stand”.  We had a great intro with Martin Luther King Jr.’s I Have A Dream Speech.  The 5th grade theme is “Heritage”.  These both will be nice to talk about as we dig deeper into WWII.  We hope to have some guest come and speak about this time and effects on them and the U.S.

We have a busy month ahead of us so we wish you love and God’s blessings.

Mrs. Zubke
