LUTHERAN SCHOOLS: SECURING EACH CHILD'S FUTURE
Kindness - Pass it On
I sat
staring at a blank page. No bright ideas, No sparks of
creativity, No bursts of energy. Then a news story
caught my attention. It seemed like the perfect story
for February. WCCO’s, “Finding Minnesota” reported on
a story of coffee and kindness from a café in downtown
St. Paul. In a world where times are tough, and we seem
to be caught up in our own lives, worries and struggles,
it’s hard to remember to show kindness to others.
The “Q
Kindness Café” has a vision for everyone to experience
random acts of “Q Kindness” regularly. The café has
positive quotes on every wall, table and menu. Their
mission is to create the kindest city in America. They
not only encourage customers to perform random acts of
kindness for others but they take action themselves.
The café hands out hand warmers on cold days, and
bouquets of flowers that come with a note that says
enjoy and then after an hour pass on to someone else to
make their day. There’s also a kindness wheel for
customers to spin and whatever they land on they buy for
the next stranger who orders that item. That kindness,
they say, then multiplies. Quotes from customers
confirmed that statement. The café owners also
persuaded the mayor of St. Paul to declare the first
week of every month “Kindness Week”. The “Q Kindness
Café” asks that “when you receive an act of kindness,
pay it forward, Give and ask others to do the same.”

or www.qkindness.com)
Now I
know that “random acts of kindness” is not a new idea.
There have been T.V. shows, movies, and talk show hosts
that have all suggested the same thing. But somehow
they all seem so far removed. Here, in Minnesota, we
have a small café tucked away in the heart of a city,
making a difference in people’s lives.
In a
way it seems sad that in our world we have to try so
hard to be kind. As Christians we know that kindness
was not a brainstorm of some T.V. personality or a café
owner but was instituted by God. Over and over again in
His Word, God reminds us how to treat one-another.
Proverbs 14:21 says, “...Blessed is he who is kind to
the needy.” Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind and compassionate
to one another…” 1 Thessalonians 5:15, Make sure that
nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be
kind to each other and to everyone else.” Kindness is a
fruit of the spirit and an expression of love. God
bestowed on us the most selfless act of love and
kindness. 1 John 3:16, “This is how we know what love
is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we
ought to lay down our lives for our brothers….Dear
children, let us not love with words or tongue but with
actions and in truth.”
During
this month of February may we find opportunities to show
kindness. Not just random acts of kindness but
kindness that is intentional and on purpose. Let God’s
loving kindness shine through you.
“Beloved,
let us love one another, for love comes from God.
Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows
God. Whoever does not love does not know God,
because God is love. This is how God showed his
love among us: He sent his one and only Son into
the world that we might live through him. This is
love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us
and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our
sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also
ought to love one another.” 1 John 4:7-11

Leather Tooling
The 7th & 8th grade class learned the fine art
of leather tooling. With kind and patient
expertise from Myron Gack the students learned
to work with leather and the leather tools.
They created a design and with careful tap, tap,
taps they finished a beautiful handcrafted
wallet.
Thank you Myron for sharing your talents with

Kindergarten - 3rd Grade News
February is a fun and exciting month. There
are so many
interesting events to look forward to. First
there’s Groundhog’s Day with our favorite
groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil. Then there’s
Valentine’s Day and President’s Day and the long
awaited 100th day of school.
Every day is a
gift from God and an opportunity to experience
new things. We’ve been reading and reading.
We’ve also been learning proper sentence
structure and will be writing letters to our
friends at May Creek. We continue to move along
in math with adding, subtracting, number
recognition, greater than, less than, and
rounding to the nearest 10 or 100.
I had the
privilege of visiting with each student’s
parents during parent/teacher conferences. What
a wonderful opportunity it is to share the
accomplishments of each child.
It’s hard to
believe that half the school year is over. God
has truly blessed our school and we will
celebrate those blessings during National
Lutheran Schools Week in March. Please watch
for up-coming information and join us in
celebration.
God’s
richest Blessings, Miss Janna

4th - 8th Grade News
Whew, it looks
like we made it through the worst of the cold
weather. The students really were troopers
through the month of January. Hopefully, we can
continue to look forward to warmer weather.
The students have
been working through many new math concepts.
While learning them, they have learned some
quick tricks to make them easier. Also, all the
students had to write research reports. They
learned a lot about different animals, counties,
and presidents.
In social the
students have learned countries in Europe, Asia
and, hopefully before the year is out, Africa
and South America. Mapping is so much fun.
We continue to
also work hard in science, reading, gym,
spelling and other areas too.
The 7th and 8th
grade wallets made from leather crafting look
fantastic. They are looking forward to cooking
and sewing.
As the month of
love is upon us, we hope that you share the love
of Jesus all year round and not just in
February.
God’s blessing to
you and yours,
Mrs. Zubke
