The Miracle of Christmas

Miracles are marvels that defy all explanation

And Christmas is a miracle, not just a celebration

A virgin shall conceive and bear the Son of God,

The angels would announce His birth in all Glory, Honor, Laud.

The shepherds ran to find Him in a bed of hay.

The star above shone brightly and led them on their way.

It happened just as God foretold so many years ago,

The miracle of Christmas day for all the world to know.

A miracle is defined as; “an effect in the physical world which surpasses all known human or natural powers and is therefore ascribed to supernatural.”  The dictionary in my Bible defines it as; “an extraordinary manifestation of God’s presence.”  People don’t believe in miracles anymore.  Our human reasoning tells us such events are impossible and make only for a good story.  Many people scoff at the probability that the events leading up to and surrounding our Lord’s birth are impossible, just a good story with a happy-ever-after ending.  As Christians we believe that Jesus was born of a virgin as foretold throughout the old testament.  That He died and rose again surpassing all human understanding, an extraordinary manifestation of God’s presence.  We believe that God continues to work miracles in our lives.  We believe that the greatest miracle is yet to come in our Lord’s second Advent.  Though none of us know when this joyous occasion will take place, we prepare our hearts and minds through Word and Sacrament.  We share the Good News of Jesus whenever the opportunity arises so that others may share in our joy.  And we wait as did the Old Testament believers for Him to come again in glory.  That will be a happy-ever-after ending to our sinful human lives.  A miracle of extraordinary manifestation and the true presence of the Triune God.

“No ear may hear His coming, But in this World of sin, where meek souls will receive Him still, the Dear Christ enters in.”

Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten

We are having a great school year in Preschool and Pre-K.  December brings Christmas program practice, our   program, working on letters and  numbers, talking about baby Jesus and why He is so special to us.  We will also be making special gifts for our parents.

Last month we helped make a turkey dinner for school and made a turkey our of cookies and candy.  The Preschool and Pre-K all liked the frosting the best.

God’s blessings to all during this Christmas season.

Kindergarten & 1st Grade

We have had some exciting times in Kindergarten and First grade.  We now have a computer to work and play on.  We have learned about shapes and colors,  including how to mix red, yellow, and blue to make orange, green, and purple.  Kindergarteners continue to learn more letters and letter sounds while First graders learn how to read more words.  But our biggest excitement has been welcoming 2 more Kindergarteners to our class, making our class size up to 6!

We are so thankful that God continues to bless His ministry.  God’s richest blessings to you and your family during this Advent season!

2nd - 4th Grade

The second quarter of school has begun and with that brings much anticipation.

We continue to work hard in all subject areas.  We have set up some new reading centers that have created a new excitement for reading.  We have started musical practice and look forward to sharing the Good News of Jesus with all we meet.  We are leaning so much in Religion class about how the Old Testament points us to the cross of Jesus.  We will be learning the meaning behind Advent and  celebrating the birth of Jesus together.  Each day we will end with this prayer:

                “Ah dearest Jesus, Holy Child,

make thee a bed, soft, undefiled

within my heart that it may be a

                quiet chamber kept for thee.”

Merry Christmas,

Miss Janna

5th - 7th Grade

The month of December is upon us and there are so many things to remember.  The school musical is December 18 with a performance at 1:00 and 7:00.  The children have been working hard and practicing for the big night.  The 5th—7th graders have memorized their lines and have perfected their acting and singing skills.

There are many things to look forward to this quarter.  The 5-6 graders will be making 3-D models of the planets.  They will also continue working on the different parts of speech as will the 7th graders.  The 7th graders did a nice job with their cooking elective.  The turkey dinner was a big hit.  They will prepare now to cook a dinner for their families.  We can’t wait to see what the next elective will bring for them to complete.

As always with December, we have a nice break to relax, enjoy our families and to celebrate the coming of our King.  There may be a couple of weeks where we won’t have spelling, but the dates are not set.  We hope to celebrate in our classroom before the break and to really understand the true meaning of Christmas. I hope that each and everyone of you has a blessed Christmas and a joyous New Year.  See you next year in 2008.

“COOKING WITH CORINA”

The 7th grade students have been learning the fundamentals of cooking with their instructor, Corina Bronczyk.  They put some of their new found knowledge to work by making a Thanksgiving meal for the entire school with some help from the Pre-K.  They also made the pies during one of our pie baking days.  They served and cleaned up.  It was a wonderful meal!

BIBLE BOWL

The 5th - 7th grade classes participated in the Lutheran School Bible Bowl held Nov. 17 at Family of Christ Lutheran School in Baxter.  They competed with other teams in 6 different rounds.  Each round was 6 minutes long with 10 questions.  It’s neat to see how much the students in our Lutheran schools are remembering from their religious training and just how much more there is to learn.  GREAT JOB!
